Cold Conditions

Cold conditions present hazards that may seriously impact worker health and safety. Hypothermia is a serious medical condition associated with cold that has the potential to prove fatal to workers. Frostbite may lead to tissue death, amputation, or permanent inability to use an appendage. Factors ranging from wind chill and length of exposure to the physical and medical condition of workers may heighten the risks.

Preventing illnesses and injuries arising from working in cold conditions is an important responsibility for all employers that require work in the cold. Risk control and safe work procedures are essential to maintain worker health and safety.
