Personal Protective Equipment

The lack of appropriate PPE is a significant factor in the number and severity of injuries in the workplace. According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, thousands of people are blinded each year from work-related eye injuries that could have been prevented with the proper selection and use of eye and face protection. A survey about worksite accidents and injuries conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) revealed that 84 percent of all workers who suffered head injuries were not wearing head protection. A BLS study of foot injuries found 75 percent of the accidents occurred when workers were not in compliance. The Respiratory Protection Standard is usually one of the top 10 most frequently cited standards, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
