Safety Data Sheet

The basic goal of hazard communication is to ensure that employees under- stand the hazards of chemicals and the precautions they must take to protect their safety, health, and the environment. For decades now, ever since OSHA developed the Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom), one of the key elements in hazard communication has been the material safety data sheet (MSDS). Now, under the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), developed under the auspices of the United Nations, a safety data sheet (SDS) will replace the old MSDS.

This training resources is to train employees on the significance and impact of the GHS and to describe the SDS so that employees who now rely on the MSDS will know how to use the SDS effectively.

  • Understand the GHS and how it affects hazard communication in the workplace.
  • Recognize how the SDS improves your access to vital safety, health, and environmental information about chemicals used in the workplace.
